Attend a Sky Party at the Library on August 21

Sky PartyThe United States will experience a total solar eclipse on August 21. While San Diego is outside of the path of the total solar eclipse, residents will experience a partial solar eclipse at 10:22 am. San Diego Public Libraries are hosting viewing parties to celebrate this rare event, featuring activities including scavenger hunts and storytimes. Poster DesignIn this program for ages 12 and up, local design professional Alessa Sotelo will teach you how to turn your creativity and design skills into a career. Learn how Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop can be used to their greatest potential. This program will teach your tips and tricks to help you design a poster for the "Your Library through your Design: Poster Competition," and is part of the Shiley Teen Summer Reading Program. Refreshments will be provided. Registration is required.

Art of Change in the Dickinson Popular Library

Art of ChangeThe Climate Science Alliance proudly presents Art of Change on exhibit in the Dickinson Popular Library at the Central Library now through September 10. Featuring creative climate-inspired artwork by local children, artists, and community members, this exhibition includes an interactive scavenger hunt that children can participate in to earn a free coloring book. And don't forget to check out Weather on Steroids: The Art of Climate Change Science on view in the Art Gallery until September 3.

Library Partners with UCSD to Offer STEAM Education

Library NExTThe Library has partnered with UCSD Extension to offer NExT (Network of Education x Training) programming at a variety of libraries. Programs include classes on topics such as robotics, circuits, "messy" science, 3D modeling and college planning. Upcoming classes include "Tiny House - Mini Architecture" at the Logan Heights Branch Library (August 5 and 12) and "Squid Dissection" at the Serra Mesa-Kearny Mesa Branch Library (August 12).
